4c. Memorization Starter Verses

If you are new to memorizing and are just getting started, below is a list of suggested “Starter Verses.”   If you are an experienced memorizer, check out the list as well.  You might come across a good new verse or two that you have yet to memorize.

Please note that these verses are taken from the NIV Bible.  If the Bible you regularly use is a different version, you should write out your cards using that version.

Philippians 4:13   “I can do everything through him who gives me strength”

Philippians 4:19     “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus”

Matthew 6:33   “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”

1 Timothy 6:6   “But godliness with contentment is great gain”

John 3:3 “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again”

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! ”

1 Corinthians 3:16   “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? ”

1 Peter 2:2   “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation”

 

Acts 4:12   “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved”

John 14:6   “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’”

Acts 1:8   “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

Romans 3:23   “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Romans 6:23   “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”

Romans 5:8   “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”

Revelation 3:20   “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me”

John 3:16     “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”

Ephesians 2:8-9   “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast”

Hebrews 9:27   “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment”

Romans 8:1   “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”

1 Corinthians 10:13   “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it”

1 Peter 1:16     “For it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy”

Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”

John 14:27   “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”

Matthew 11:28-30   “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”

John 13:35   “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”

 

John 15:13   “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”

James 1:2-3   “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance”

John 16:33   “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”

Romans 8:28   “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”

Hebrews 10:25   “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing”

1John 2:15-17   “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him”

Romans 7:18   “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature”

1 Peter 5:8-9   “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith”

Ephesians 6:11   “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes”

John 14:26   “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”

Psalm 150:6   “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD”

Genesis 1:1   “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins”

Ephesians 5:18 “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit”

Proverbs 15:1 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger”

Philippians 4:6-7    “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”

 

1 Peter 5:7   “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”

Luke 6:38   “Give, and it will be given to you”

Proverbs 3:5-6   “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight”

Jeremiah 29:11 “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’”
